Notable Big 12 DB Plans to Use 2024 as Redshirt Season, Transfer
In continuing the recent trend, a notable Big 12 player is shutting it down for the rest of the season and deciding to transfer. UCF defensive back Bryon Threats informed the school that he plans to redshirt the rest of the year and enter the transfer portal, according to a report by ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
After spending three years with Cincinnati, the Columbus, Ohio native jumped to another new Big 12 program in UCF before the 2024 season. He has seven total tackles so far this season. Threats was a member of the Bearcats’ 2021 team that made the College Football Playoff.

Threats has 130 tackles and four interceptions overall in his career. He will have one year left of eligibility with his third program.
The news about Threats comes three days after Oklahoma State offensive lineman Jason Brooks Jr. officially entered the portal to preserve the season.
A 6-foot-3, 310-pound guard, Brooks started 11 games during his time with Oklahoma State after transferring from Vanderbilt. He even started the first seven games in 2023 before an injury hampered him the rest of the season.
According to reports, Oklahoma State didn’t play Brooks in 2024 because they were planning to use the year as a redshirt season. Obviously, Brooks had other plans and is now in search of his third college program in hopes of getting on the field as soon as possible.
Brooks was a three-star prospect out of Dobie High School in Houston, Texas.
