WVU Football Adds FCS Game Against Robert Morris in 2029

WVU football has added a nonconference game to its 2029 schedule as FBSchesules.com reported Wednesday that the Mountaineers will play Robert Morris on Sept. 15, 2029.

The game completes West Virginia’s nonconference schedule for 2029 as the Mountaineers already have a home game against Ohio University scheduled for Sept. 1 and the Backyard Brawl at Pitt on Sept. 8.

It will be the second all-time meeting between WVU and RMU, which are separated by less than 100 miles. The first meeting is scheduled to take place next season on Aug. 30, 2025, also in Morgantown. The Mountaineers have never lost to an FCS opponent, holding a perfect 24-0 all-time record.

In addition to Robert Morris, West Virginia is scheduled to host Pitt for the Backyard Brawl and play a game at Ohio University for its nonconference slate next season.

RMU plays in the Northeast Conference and is 6-2 this season with a 4-0 conference record. This Saturday, the Colonials play intra-city rival Duquesne, also 4-0, with sole possession of first place on the line.

The added game against RMU was the second piece of WVU football scheduling news on Wednesday, as the university announced earlier in the day that a two-game neutral site series against Virginia had been added for 2026 and 2032.

In September, WVU coach Neal Brown hinted the program was working to alter its future schedules while at that time bringing up a priority to play the Backyard Brawl rivalry with Pitt as often as possible. The rivalry will go on a break following the 2025 game in Morgantown before picking up again.

WVU has played 11 regular-season games against power conference opponents in every year of Brown’s tenure. That is at least set to change next year as WVU has Robert Morris and Ohio on its 2025 schedule.
