The WVU women had their first bad stumble of the season, dropping their Big 12 opener at Colorado on Saturday.

Despite holding a double-digit lead in the third quarter, the Mountaineers collapsed in the fourth, allowing the Buffaloes to steal a 65-60 victory.

The Mountaineers fell four spots from No. 14 to No. 18 in this week’s poll. It is WVU’s lowest ranking of  the season.

Other Big 12 teams in the Top 25 are No. 11 TCU and No. 12 Kansas State. Utah, Oklahoma State and Baylor all received votes.

While West Virginia raced out to a double-digit lead in both the first and the second half, Colorado managed to reel them back in each time. Colorado went on to close out the game on a 27-9 run, limiting the Mountaineers to just two made shots in the fourth quarter.

Jordan Harrison paced West Virginia with 18 points, three rebounds and five assists, JJ Quinerly added 15 points but did so on just 4-of-12 shooting, and no other Mountaineer managed to clear the ten-point benchmark.

In the NCAA’s NET Rankings, WVU dropped from No. 10 to No. 15 after their loss at Colorado.

Mark Kellogg’s WVU women’s basketball team will next take the court on Wednesday, Jan. 1, hosting UCF in their Big 12 home opener at 2 p.m.
