WVU Misses Out on Transfer TE to Surprising Blue Blood

A popular transfer tight end who was considering WVU committed to another major program instead. Kennesaw State transfer Carson Kent announced his commitment to Oklahoma earlier in the week, ending any speculation about his recent communication with West Virginia.

WVSN initially reported WVU reached to Kent and then sent him an official offer two days later. But WVU knew they would have plenty of competition  in their pursuit of the 6-foot-4, 240-pound Georgia native.

Kent picked the Sooners over other offers from programs like Arkansas State, Colorado State, Eastern Michigan, FAU, Georgia Southern, JMU, Jacksonville State, Kent State, Miami (OH), New Mexico State, Nevada, ODU, Temple, UAB, UMass, WKU, Wake Forest and Western Michigan.

The Mountaineers were among a big group to make early contact, including Ball State, ECU, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Oregon State, Texas State and South Alabama.

West Virginia was believed to be in Kent’s top three with Oklahoma and Wake Forest.

While Oklahoma’s interest may seem surprising, Kent is viewed as an attractive blocker in the run game in addition to his works as a receiver. He caught 18 balls for 218 yards and scored three touchdowns as a sophomore in 2024.

Kent has two years left of eligibility.
